The land for this place of worship was leased to the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Chatham on February 25,1871 by my mom’s grandparents, Erastus and Fidelia Rice. Later that year, Floyd Erway began construction of the church. It was completed in the spring of 1872 at a cost of $3,500.00. A kitchen and woodshed were added in 1899. The bathrooms were added between the years 1965-1971. Throughout the years, the church has provided Sunday School Services, an annual Vacation Bible School, and several other outreach programs. Our community has been stitched together through years of a shared vision of faith, hope, and love. Our family feels blessed to have been able to provide a place for people to learn of the life and love of Jesus and come to know our Lord for the past 148 years.
When the idea for a quilt shop came to me, I knew that it was heaven-sent. My mom, who recently went to her heavenly home, loved quilting! She welcomed children and grandchildren into the world with a quilt she had lovingly pieced together. This was a tradition that had been passed down to her. From a young age, I came to appreciate the love that went into these family keepsakes, and I feel it still today as I look at each one of our family quilts. I hope to pass on the love and comfort that quilting has given to our family to all of you.
